About the Adirondack rail trail

The 34-mile multipurpose trail starts at Lake Placid and ends at Tupper Lake and serves users of all ages and abilities year-round. It enables residents and visitors to enjoy healthy exercise, commune with nature, and soak up Adirondack history. Use this website to plan your trip.

The Adirondack Rail Trail is managed by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC). The Adirondack Rail Trail Association (ARTA) partners with NYS DEC to addresses trail maintenance and amenities.

PHASE 3 from Floodwood Road to Tupper Lake is open. Users should be aware that there may be some construction occurring; however, the trail is open to the public.
